ADCA Media Release (12 June 2013) – Drug Action Week (DAW) 2013 Launched in Adelaide!
The Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, the Hon Mark Butler MP, officially launched DAW 2013 today (Wednesday, 12 June 2013) at Le Fevre High School in Adelaide.
The annual awareness initiative is living up to expectations to be another highly successful seven days of awareness raising and celebratory activities on the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector calendar.
Close to 950 activities/ events have been registered across Australia aimed at raising awareness of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues during the week which is scheduled to run from Sunday, 16 June through to Saturday, 22 June..
This response to DAW 2013 has been very encouraging, and follows on from the record 900 registrations for DAW 2012 as health and wellbeing organisations continue to embrace this year’s week which has the central theme of Drugs, Communities & Families!
AOD/ NGO organisations, individuals, and other strategic stakeholders across all States and Territories have aligned their events/ activities with the theme, as well as the supporting daily themes, to assist in increasing awareness of the dangers of excessive consumption of alcohol and the misuse of other drugs.
The DAW 2013 daily themes will focus on: Illicit Drugs/ Stimulants/ Inhalants on Monday, 17 June; Alcohol/ Tobacco on Tuesday, 18 June; Pharmaceuticals (both script and non-script) on Wednesday, 19 June; Families/ Youth Issues on Thursday, 20 June; and Building Resilience in Communities on Friday, 21 June.
