National Drug Awards

The National Drug and Alcohol Awards are an annual event that encourage, recognise and celebrate achievements to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug use and harm in Australia.

The Awards are open to all people and organisations that work in the alcohol, other drugs and related sectors.

The Awards are a collaborative effort of the Ted Noffs Foundation (TNF), the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) and the Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD).

ADCA Media Release (24 May 2013) – DAW Event Registrations Top 700!: More than 700 registrations have so far been received for Drug Action Week (DAW) 2013 which is scheduled to run from Sunday, 16 June through to Saturday, 22 June.

The annual awareness initiative is shaping up to be another highly successful seven days of awareness raising and celebratory activities on the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector calendar.

The Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, the Hon Mark Butler MP, will officially launch DAW 2013 on Wednesday, 12 June 2013, at Le Fevre High School in Adelaide.

“This response is very encouraging, and follows on from the record 900 registrations for DAW 2012,” the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), Mr David Templeman said.

Health and wellbeing organisations continue to embrace DAW which this year has the central theme of Drugs, Communities & Families!

Mr Templeman said that organisations and individuals had aligned their events/ activities with the theme, as well as the supporting daily themes, to assist in increasing awareness of the dangers of excessive consumption of alcohol and the misuse of other drugs.

The DAW 2013 daily themes will focus on: Illicit Drugs/ Stimulants/ Inhalants on Monday, 17 June; Alcohol/ Tobacco on Tuesday, 18 June; Pharmaceuticals (both script and non-script) on Wednesday, 19 June; Families/ Youth Issues on Thursday, 20 June; and Building Resilience in Communities on Friday, 21 June.

With registrations received from all jurisdictions, coordinators planning an event/ activity in support of DAW 2013 are urged to register NOW to ensure they receive a promotional pack.
